Mentoring
I couldn’t have wished for a better mentor than Susannah. Not only would she win Mastermind for her picture book know-how, her feedback always opens up new ways of thinking that makes any story better. I feel like I’ve not only become a better writer under her stewardship, but I’ve gained a deeper appreciation of the picture book format itself. In short, she rocks.
Being mentored by Susannah has been a brilliant experience from the get-go. I jumped at the chance to work with her because I love how the text and illustrations in her own picture books interplay and hoped she could help me develop that in my own stories. She certainly has! Susannah helps me to think of ways I can really craft a story and her feedback is honest and insightful. I love how she always considers the child reader and what they will find satisfying in a book. Her mentoring has allowed me to dig out the bolder, quirkier texts that I’d shelved and get excited about taking them forward again. Thank you Susannah!
